The Reality of Poetry, Historical Background and Its Shari’ah Ruling

Abstract

Poetry means, the collection of symmetrical and rhythmical words which a poet spells out his ideas to make his expression more attractive for the readers. Poetry is a form of literature which reflects complete picture of the history. It has been hoby of humans since ancient times. It is believed that the first ever couplet was said by Hazrat Adam in grief of his son Hazrat Habīl who was killed by Qabīl. According to Hazrat Muhamma (PBUH), poetry is a part of wisdom, unless it is based on obscenity. This article is an attempt to highlight a concise history and reality of poetry also to analyze the permissiblilty and prohibition of poetry in the light of Shari’ah
